Background

ShipWorks uses printing rules to send processed shipping labels to the correct thermal or standard printers based upon your ShipWorks settings.  This article will guide you through restoring the default printing rules.

Note:  If you have custom printing rules configured, please do not follow this article to restore your defaults as it will affect how your labels print.  You may also wind up removing your custom print rules.

The Process

USPS, Express1, OnTrac, i-Parcel

The above shipping providers support both printing to thermal printers as well as printing to a standard inkjet or laser printer.  Here is how to set the default printing rules for these providers:

1.  In ShipWorks click on the Manage tab and then click on the Shipping Settings button.

2.  From the list of shipping providers on the left side of the Shipping Settings screen, select the shipping provider for which you wish to set the printing rule defaults.  For this example we will use USPS.

3.  On the Shipping Settings screen, select the Printing tab.

Before we continue, let's take a look at what the default printing rules should look like.  The below screenshot shows what your Printing screen should look like.  If it does not, then continue to step 4.

4.  Assuming that you wish to set the printing rules back to the way they were when you first installed ShipWorks (the default settings), we will begin by deleting any printing rules that may be in place.

Note:  If you have custom printing rules configured, please stop and reach out to our support team.  We are more than happy to assist you.

4a.  When you are sure that you wish to delete your printing rules and add them back as the ShipWorks default rules, click on the red X to the right of the word Labels in the Output Rules section.

5.  Click on the Add Group button.  Name the group Labels, then click OK.
