Increase productivity by installing ShipWorks on multiple computers and connecting them to a centralized ShipWorks database. A common ShipWorks setup may include:
Shipping workstations (for picking, packing and shipping).
Office workstations (for running reports, printing packing slips and more).
Management workstations (for administering ShipWorks, running productivity reports, monitoring inventory levels and more).
In order to run ShipWorks on multiple computers and to have each ShipWorks computer connected to a centralized ShipWorks database, please be sure that:
ShipWorks has been installed successfully on at least one computer on your local area network.
All of the PCs on which you will be installing ShipWorks are on the same Local Area Network (LAN). Typically, if all of the computers are on the same wireless connection or plugged into the same modem or router, they are on the same local area network. If you are unsure please reach out to your local IT person.
Enable remote connections has been enabled on the main ShipWorks database computer. If you are unsure if remote connections is enabled, please see our help article.
Open your web browser and navigate to hub.shipworks.com.
Log in using your ShipWorks account email address and password.
Click on Settings. Then, click on the Download ShipWorks button.
Follow the steps for the web browser you are using to launch the ShipWorks installer. If prompted, click Yes to allow the installer to run.
Upon launching the ShipWorks installation wizard, a quick system check will be performed in order to ensure that your computer meets the ShipWorks minimum system requirements.
Review the End User License Agreement and click the I Accept button.
Verify the install path is correct. This is the location on your computer in which the ShipWorks software will be installed.
By default, ShipWorks will be installed in C:\Program Files\ShipWorks. However, you can modify the location by typing the path into the Install Path: field or by clicking on the Browse button and selecting a location.
Log in to your ShipWorks account. Enter the email address and password you used when signing up for your ShipWorks account and click Sign In.
Select the desired warehouse for this installation from the drop-down menu. Then, click the Next button.
The list of warehouses is populated by the warehouses you have configured in The Hub. Be sure that you select the correct warehouse. Once the installation is complete your selection cannot be undone or changed.
After clicking Next the wizard will install the ShipWorks software. It will then search your network for the ShipWorks database and will automatically connect to it.
If you would like to manually select the database to which this installation of ShipWorks should connect, please see the Advanced Database Options section found below.
While on the Location Configuration screen (step 5 above) you have the option to Manually select an existing database to connect to. This may be a useful option for more advanced users, such as IT personnel, who wish to troubleshoot issues with connecting to the ShipWorks database.
Verify that no warehouse has been selected. Then, check the Manually select an existing database to connect to option. Click Next.
Enter the path to your SQL instance into the Where is your database running? field. Then, click the Connect button to connect to the instance.
After connecting, a list of available ShipWorks databases will be displayed.
Locate your SQL Instance
Did you know that you can view your database information in the ShipWorks software. Here's how:
Log into ShipWorks on the main ShipWorks workstation (the first computer that you installed ShipWorks onto).
Click on the Manage tab and then on the Configuration button.
Locate the SQL Instance: and Database: lines on the Database Configuration screen.
The SQL Instance: is what you will enter into the Where is your database running? field in step 5 above. Be sure to enter it exactly as it is displayed on your computer.
Select the ShipWorks database to which you wish to connect. Then, click the Next button.
The ShipWorks software will now be installed and connected to the database you selected. Return to Step 6 above.
