USPS Rate Changes - 2023 | Overview
Shipping carriers routinely update their products, services, and rates. These changes usually occur at the beginning and midpoint of each year.
The U.S. Postal Service has announced new service and postage rates to be implemented on January 22 and July 9th of 2023. Listed below are the highlights of the proposed 2023 USPS postage rate changes.

The U.S. Postal Service has announced a new service class and postage rates to be implemented on Sunday, July 9, 2023.
The key changes include merging USPS Retail Ground, Parcel Select Ground, and First-Class Package service into the new mail class, USPS Ground Advantage™.

To accommodate the USPS changes, ShipWorks will automatically map any existing presets or shipping rules tied to the services that will no longer be in use (USPS Retail Ground, Parcel Select Ground, and First-Class Package Service) to the new USPS Ground Advantage service. This means that you don't need to take any action to continue utilizing USPS services, and your shipments will automatically be processed through USPS Ground Advantage.
In addition to the new service class available on July 9th, the USPS will also update their HAZMAT labels to include Dangerous Goods STCs (Service Types Codes). The codes are similar to HS Codes, which indicate that package contents have been classified as having hazardous material via a barcode banner on the label.

Services Merging to be USPS Ground Advantage®
USPS announced a new domestic shipping service called USPS Ground Advantage® which combines USPS Retail Ground, Parcel Select Ground, and First-Class Package Services, with the goal of giving customers a streamlined shipping option for packages weighing up to 70 pounds.
In preparation for the merging of these services ShipWorks suggests that you:

Review and update any shipping rules you have configured to automatically apply USPS Retail Ground, Parcel Select Ground, and First-Class Package Services.

Always ensure that your shipments include the correct weight and dimensions in order to get the best rates available.

Packages up to 15.999oz (Formerly First-Class Package Service): No change to these rates.

Packages 1lb or more (Formerly Parcel Select Ground): An average decrease of 1% overall, starting with $6.47 (previously $6.99)

Media Mail: services will see an average 7% increase in price on July 9th, starting with $3.92 (previously $3.65)

Service Ending for Regional Rate Boxes
USPS announced that it will be phasing out Regional Rate boxes in 2023. In preparation for the removal of these services ShipWorks suggests that you:

Review and update any shipping rules you have configured to automatically apply Regional Rate boxes.

Always ensure that your shipments include the correct weight and dimensions in order to get the best rates available.

Priority Mail® services will increase approximately 5.5% overall for Commercial Base (online postage) in 2023, with rates starting at $7.64 (previously $7.37).

Priority Mail Express® services will increase approximately 6.6% overall for Commercial Base (online postage) in 2023, with rates starting at $24.90 (previously $23.50).

Ground Advantage® (formerly First Class Package®) services will increase approximately 7.8% overall for Commercial Base (online postage) in 2023, with rates starting at $3.59 (previously $3.37).

Priority Mail Flat Rate®: Some Flat Rate retail product prices will be reduced compared with the temporary rate adjustment currently in place.
