UPS OAuth 2.0 Security Changes 2024
Beginning August 3, 2024 (deadline extended by UPS from June 2), UPS is updating how platforms like ShipWorks can authenticate your personal UPS account back to UPS systems. This change is required for all users and shipping platforms not already using OAuth 2.0.
Our ShipWorks engineers have been working diligently to make this change as simple as possible for you.
To ensure that you can keep shipping with your personal UPS account after August 3, 2024, and to ensure that your ShipWorks environment is ready for these required UPS changes, you will need to be using ShipWorks version 11.0.0 or higher and reauthorize your personal UPS account once. The steps to complete this process are listed in the sections below.
If you only use UPS from ShipWorks One Balance, you do not need to complete these steps. These steps only apply if using your own personal UPS account in ShipWorks, for which you receive invoices directly from UPS.
To complete the required changes, you will need the following information that is associated with the UPS account number you have configured in ShipWorks:
-
UPS.com username or email account login
-
Password for the account
-
Please note that additional information is required if you also use UPS Mail Innovations.
Once you have that information, you will need to Upgrade to ShipWorks version 11+ or higher. For assistance with checking your version of ShipWorks or with upgrading to the latest version, please see the How Do I Upgrade ShipWork help article.

UPS Return shipping labels can no longer be emailed directly from UPS. Instead, you can configure your email account in ShipWorks to send Return labels.
-
UPS Quantum View Notify mechanisms will not be supported after upgrading to version 11+ of ShipWorks. Customizable email notifications should be configured in lieu of the UPS QVN service. Messages will show your custom email as the Sender. They can be triggered when orders are shipped or delivered, and when there are service interruptions.
-
UPS EPL thermal label formats will not be supported after upgrading to version 11+ of ShipWorks. Modern Zebra 2844 model printers should support both EPL and ZPL formats. If you are not able to use EPL formatting, standard label formats can be used and configured to print to your thermal printer.
-
UPS Emailed return labels – will not be supported after upgrading to version 11+ of ShipWorks. ShipWorks does have a similar feature to Automatically Email Return Labels you can enable if needed.
What happens if I don’t upgrade by August 3, 2024?
You will not be able to process UPS shipping labels or see rates with your personal UPS accounts in ShipWorks.
Is my UPS from ShipWorks One Balance account impacted?
No. Only personal UPS accounts will require these changes.
What if I do not have UPS.com login credentials for the UPS account(s) we currently use in ShipWorks?
If you are using a client's UPS account in ShipWorks and cannot obtain the login credentials, you will need to use the Bill to Third Party option. To use this option you must have at least one personal UPS account connected to ShipWorks and also know the desired UPS account number and associated address postal code.
Will I still be able to see my negotiated rates in ShipWorks?
Yes, however certain accounts may have to reach out to their UPS representative to enable a setting for this to display correctly. This would only effect the rate display, it would not impact the rates you are charged for your shipments. We are still working with UPS to confirm who could be impacted by this.
Will this impact what I am charged for my UPS shipments?
No, this update does not effect the rates you have negotiated with UPS.
