Testing Your Printing Setup
After making any changes to your printer configuration in ShipWorks, it is recommended that you test the changes in order to be sure that your printer configuration is working as expected. Testing your printer(s) may require you to process a new shipping label or may just require you to reprint a packing slip or invoice, depending upon the type of printer(s) that you are using.
This article will guide you through how to test your printer(s) in ShipWorks.
If you are printing packing slips or invoices with ShipWorks to a standard inkjet or laser printer, it is easy to test your printer setup by printing a test packing slip or invoice. Here's how:
1. Select an order in ShipWorks. Then, Right-Click on the order and select Quick Print [the packing slip or invoice you print from ShipWorks]. Quick Print will automatically send the packing slip or invoice to the printer without giving you the option to select a printer. If you wish to see which printer is configured for the packing slip or invoice, right click and select the Print option instead of the Quick Print option.
Did it print? Yes - Awesome! No - Check out this article for help.
Please note that the following steps will only work if you have not changed the type of printer you are printing your labels to (EPL, ZPL, Standard). If you have recently changed the type of printer you are using to print your shipping labels, please see the next section of this article.
If you are testing to the same type of printer, perhaps after troubleshooting a printer issue, please do the following:
1. Select an order for which you have already processed a shipping label. Then, click Home Ship Orders.
2. On the Ship Orders screen, click the Reprint Label button. This will send the already processed label to the printer configured for your labels in ShipWorks.
Did it print? Yes - Awesome! No- You may need to troubleshoot your printer or try following the steps in the next section of this article.
If you have recently changed the printer you use to print your shipping labels, we recommend processing a new shipping label from scratch so that you are sure that the label is processed using all of your newly configured settings. Otherwise you may be trying to print a ZPL formatted label to an EPL printer (or vise-versa) and the label will not print.
Let's assume that you have an order for which you processed a shipping label, but it did not print. So, you went through troubleshooting your printer setup and now need to test the printer. Let's void that label and process a new one so that we can test your new printer configuration.
1. Select an order for which you have already processed a shipping label. Then, click Home Ship Orders.
2. Verify that the shipment is selected. Then, click on the Void button.
3. While still on the Ship Orders screen, click on the Create New button.
4. Configure the Shipment Details for the new shipment. (Shipping Provider, weight, dimensions, etc)
5. Click the Create Label button.
Did the label print? Yes - Awesome!! No - You may need to troubleshoot your printer.
