Moving ShipWorks to a New Computer
This article explains how to transfer ShipWorks from one computer to another. If you want to run ShipWorks on more than one computer, see our documentation on networking computers here.
The first step is to make a backup. You don’t want to lose any information, right?
-
Go to Manage > Backup and save a backup on a network or a portable memory device (like a thumb drive).
-
Click the Browse button to chose a location for the backup file. Name the file, and click Save. Keep in mind, this will need to end up on the new computer, so use a shared network folder, external hard drive, or a flash drive.
-
Click the Backup button.
Now you can go to the new computer. Go to http://www.shipworks.com/download-customer/ and download the latest version of ShipWorks. Open the program after it's downloaded and start the install wizard.
-
Follow the install prompts. You’ll select the option Get set up. Then, you’ll select show advanced options.
-
Select Restore a ShipWorks database backup and then click Next.
-
Select Restore into a new database and click Next.
-
Choose Install a new instance of Microsoft SQL Server and name it whatever you’d like. Click Next.
-
Click Next through the next screen and then click Browse to locate the backup file you just saved.
Voila! Now you can log back into ShipWorks and start shipping on your new computer.
Since you have moved ShipWorks to a new computer, you will need to select the printers to which your labels will print.
