Comparing Rates Using Best Rate
The Best Rate feature allows ShipWorks to automatically compare rates between select providers. The following instructions will walk you through the process of enabling Best Rate as a shipping provider and how to compare rates using Best Rate.
There are a few items to note regarding using the Best Rate feature in ShipWorks.
1. Best Rate compares rates for select shipping providers. We will cover how to select for which providers the rates are compared in the section Select the Rates to Compare below.
2. Please be sure that you are able to log into the ShipWorks software as a user with administrator rights.
3. Still on the Shipping Settings screen, select Best Rate from the list of carriers on the left.
4. On the Settings tab, check the check-box to the left of each shipping account for which you wish to compare rates. Only the shipping accounts that are available for rates to be compared will be listed.
If for any carrier you have multiple accounts configured, select the carrier account(s) you wish to be included when comparing rates using Best Rate.
The following defaults may be useful if you typically compare rates for the same transit time, weight, dimensions, etc. For example, if you wish to always compare rates for 'One Day' transit times, you may wish to set this as a default setting.
5. Still on the Shipping Settings screen with Best Rate selected, select the Shipments tab. Then, click on the blue link Defaults - Best Rate.
6. The Shipping Profile screen allows you to set the defaults that will be set when you select Best Rate as the shipping provider for shipments in ShipWorks. The following options are available:
a. Days in Transit: Allows you to set the default service level for which Best Rate will compare rates. Initially, Best Rate is set to Anytime.
b. Weight: If you wish, you can enter a default weight. This weight will be the weight for which rates are compared when you select Best Rate as the shipping provider. Of course, you can always overwrite this weight when shipping. Typically, this setting will be left at 0.0 lbs.
c. Dimensions: Allows you to enter default dimension for which rates will be compared when you select Best Rate as the shipping provider.
7. Once you have set your defaults, click OK. Then, click Close to exit the Shipping Settings screen.
Now that you have Best Rate configured, let's take a look at how to compare rates using Best Rate as the select Shipping Provider.
