Reporting: Automate the Shipper Productivity Report
The Shipper Productivity report allows shipping managers to monitor the number of shipments processed (and voided) by ShipWorks users, as well as the total cost of the shipments processed by user. This article will guide you through using an Action to:
Create a custom button to run the Shipper Productivity report with a single mouse click.
Configure the report to run automatically.
In order to configure Reports and Actions in ShipWorks, please be sure that you are logged in as a user with the following User Rights:
Create, edit, and delete Actions
Create, edit, and delete Templates
Prior to configuring the report to run, ensure that the Shipper Productivity report is configured to be automatically saved to the location on your computer that you specify. Here's how:
-
Expand the Reports folder and select the Shipper Productivity report.
-
Click the Edit button.
-
Select the Settings tab. Then, click on Saving.
-
Update the following information:
Name: Name the report. This is the name given to the report when it is generated and saved to your computer.
Folder: Click the Browse... button and select the location on your computer in which the report should be saved.
Prompt me for the name or folder: Ensure that Never is selected.
Create an Action to add a button that runs and saves the Shipper Productivity report at any time by simply clicking the button. This could be useful to report on the number of shipments processed each day or at any time throughout the day by each ShipWorks user.
Before completing the below steps, you may wish to create a Filter in ShipWorks that lists all of the orders shipped on the current business day so that you can run the report against the orders in that filter.
To create the custom button:
-
Click the New Action button.
-
Give the Action a name, such as Shipper Productivity Report. The name of the action will also display as the button name.
-
Select A custom button is clicked from the When the following occurs: drop-down menu.
-
Select the image that will be used for the new button by clicking the Choose link to the right of Image:. Select the image from the list of available images and click the OK button.
-
Select where you would like the new button to show in ShipWorks by checking the appropriate check boxes under Show on:. The default is to show the new button on the Home tab of ShipWorks.
-
Select Nothing needs to be selected from the Require: drop-down menu.
-
Click the Add Task button and select Save File.
Select the filter in which the orders you wish to include in the report reside from the Save using: Everything in drop-down menu. Typically, you would select a filter that houses orders that have been shipped. Learn how to create a filter to house orders that have been shipped on the current business day only.
-
Select the Shipper Productivity report from the list of templates in the With template: drop-down menu.
Click the OK button. Then, click Close to exit the Action Manager.
Run the Shipper Productivity report any time by clicking the new, custom button located in the Custom Actions section of the Home tab.

Running the Report
After clicking the button, it may take a few moments for the report to compile and save. The report will be automatically saved with the name you entered and to the location you selected when you configured how to save the report.
Instead of needing to click a custom button, you could configure ShipWorks to automatically compile the report each time a shipment is processed so that the report is always up to date as of the last processed shipment.
-
Follow the steps in the Add a Custom Button to Run the Report section above, replacing steps 4-6 with the steps found below.
Select A shipment is process from the When the following occurs: drop-down menu.
Ensure that Only for Normal Shipments is selected.
Continue with step 7 above.
Running the Report
With the report set to run automatically, the report is regenerated each time a shipment is processed. The report will show the correct data as of the time the last shipment was processed. This makes the report useful if you wish to check the data at different times throughout the day.
